The students reflect on dinner with the death event • Carthage College about mortality

On May 5, the spring semester edition of the life and dying class with a special dinner with the death event – completed a final integrative experience.

Students who have a discussion about a meal.

Every student brought a guest with whom he had learned the whole semester of what he had learned. It was a sensible time to think about the secret of death and the beauty of life based on theological and religious perspectives.

Dinner created a powerful room for conversations in which guests dealt with open dialogue and thoughtful questions.

As the quote reminds us: “We only die once, but we live every day.” This evening reminded us to hug every day on purpose, compassion and presence.

Special thanks go to Ashlie Leyva Verdugo, Tim Olbrich, Gloria Cairo and Esteban Lang for their invaluable help to enable this experience, as well as all students who go through this course with such openness, courage and care.
