Jason Kidd reacts to Mavericks Landing First Pick in 2025 NBA Draft

The Dallas Mavericks somehow pulled off the impossible. They landed the first overall selection in the NBA design of 2025, although they entered the lottery results with a chance of 1.8% to win the lottery and gave them the opportunity to land a transcendent talent in Duke's Cooper Flag.

This is the type of design that a franchise can save. Nico Harrison's job has been on the ropes since he exchanged Luka Doncic in February, since the team didn't have much in the future with a few draft ability. Cooper Flagg projects that this is good enough so that this does not matter. It can also save another person's job.

Jason Kidd may have signed a contract extension after led the MAVS to the NBA final in 2024, but the 2024-25 campaign was not good for him. The constellation decisions were confusing, and while the team often fought hard after the Doncic trade and the injuries, his metrics were terrible. Losing a player like Kyrie Irving against an ACL injury did not help because he had to rely on Spencer Dinwiddie and Brandon Williams to take over the responsibilities of the games. But potentially a talent like flag makes everything easier.

“Incredible day for the Mavericks,” Kidd told Marc Stein from Dlls Network. “We are all so excited.”

This is the first time in the franchise story that the Mavericks have risen in the Draft lottery and that the second time overall is first selected. They recently increased Mark Aguirre in the 1981 draft. With the way a potential view is flag, only three all-star selection can be a disappointment.
