Manhit by shots and killed while driving in twin cities, say officials

A man was hit by shots and killed in the early Tuesday when he drove with a passenger in South Minneapolis, officers said.

The shootout occurred at 2:20 a.m. in the 2700 block of the Pillsbury Avenue S., the police said.

Officials who reacted to the scene in the city of Whittier found the man, who was described as described in late teenage, on the ground next to a vehicle, the police said.

The police said he died at the scene. No arrests were announced.

“Preliminary information indicates that the young man was driven when he was hit by shots, which led to his vehicle crashed into an vacant parked car,” said a police explanation. His female passenger was not injured, the explanation added.

“Early reports indicate that there was an argument before the shootout,” the explanation said.

“The tragic loss of this young man is alarming,” said police chief Brian O'Hara in an explanation. “His family and relatives deserve answers and he deserves justice. I encourage everyone with information to report.”

According to a database in Minnesota Star Tribune, there were 20 murders in Minneapolis this year this year. This compared to 22 in the city at that time last year.
