Mark Cuban and Patrick Dumont screamed like “Two teenagers at a Taylor Swift concert”

It is a massive understatement to say that Mark Cuban had no high hopes when he switched on the television in his main bedroom to see the NBA draft lottery on Monday evening.

“I expected what happened every year since 1980,” he wrote to the news late Monday evening in a direct message.

When his 15-year-old son Jake joined him to see the ESPN show, the Cuban probably had no time to recite every example for the happiness of the Mavericks over the years.

On the other hand, until December 2023, Kubaner was the majority owner of the Mavericks for 23 years, more than half of today's existence of the franchise, so that Jake probably hadn't reminded of it.

Like most Mavericks fans for life, Mark and Jake recognized that when the deputy NBA commissioner Mark Tatum revealed the first four cards -San Antonio, Atlanta, Chicago and Portland -that Dallas was vaulted in the top 4. But the No. 1 selection? A 1.8% chance?

“When we passed over 11 a.m., I still thought 'in no way',” said Kubaner. “But I called Patrick and let him know that we were among the top 4.”

Maverick's governor, Patrick Dumont, who sold the majority stake in the franchise together with Dumont's mother-in-law Miriam Adelson, took part in a track meeting in Nevada, in which one of his children started.

When Tatum reached the last four picks after an ESPN commercial break, the tension in the Cuban household was just as thick as a large number of others in Nordexas. Tatum turned the fourth to Belee card (Charlotte), then the third to let (Philadelphia).

Only San Antonio and Dallas left that.

“Then my son and I crashed around as if we were watching a 3-point game winner in slow motion,” said Cuban. “When they called the Spurs, we went crazy.”

Cuban called Dumont again. See? Moments like this can bring everyone together, including billionaires who did not agree on the night of February 1st when it came to the decision by Nico Harrison and Dumont, the Franchise franchise franchise.

“The first call was to congratulate Patrick and scream as if we were two teenagers at a Taylor Swift concert,” wrote Cuban. “Lol.

“We spoke for a few minutes just to enjoy the moment,” said Cuban.

“It was an amazing moment.”
