Bronx, New York City Shooting: 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey Schoss, killed outside the high school; 14-year-old person of interest

New York – On Tuesday morning there was a gloomy school start in the Bronx after a 16-year-old girl, an innocent viewer, was fatally shot.

Evette Jeffrey was shot in the head and died on Monday around 5 p.m. outside of the Bronx Latin School

Her grandmother pushed her pain to speak to ABC New York City Affiliate WABC and demanded that the suspect go on.

She shared a picture of Jeffrey as a little girl. She completed the Dunbar Middle School and visited the Morris High School.

She was fun -loving, wanted to be everyone's friend and was looking forward to going to college.

On Tuesday morning, candles burned in front of the family's residential building. A woman who bought the candles said she would remember the most of the smile.

According to the authorities, a fight broke near the building in which the Bronx Latin School is housed.

A 14-year-old boy who had been beaten and thrown on the floor fired three shots into a lot after someone beating him a pistol, officers said.

Jeffrey was driving her scooter when she stopped talking to someone who gathered for the fight.

When the shots came out, the police say that a video shows a man who tries to bring her to safety but not before she suffered a fatal shot on the head.

“I keep your family responsible because they should watch you,” said the sacrificial grandmother. “If you have given it to you or if you had it, I will never forgive you. I don't care. You can say that you apologize millions of times, I will never forgive you anything from you.”

The police are now looking for the 14-year-old boy as one person of interest in connection with the shootout, and they may try more arrests if they continue to examine how this young shooter has the gun in their hands.

Jeffrey's family said she talked about working in the medical field after she had the chance to go to college.

“A 16-year-old is dead from a 14-year-old with a weapon,” said police commissioner Jessica Tisch. “These are babies who kill babies and it has to stop.”

So far, 28 victims and 17 shooters under the age of 18 have existed in a little more than four months. In 2024, the victims under the age of 18 increased by 200%in the Bronx.
