Relatives: Crash near the Valley Plaza Mall lets a dead, two hurt

The Bakersfield police authority announced on Saturday, May 10, 2025, around 8:50 p.m. that officials were called for an accident with two vehicles at the intersection of Hughes Lane and Holden Way.

When the officials arrived, they found a fallen SUV with a man under the vehicle.

The man who was later identified as Aragon was declared dead at the crime scene. The forensician's report said Aragon was a passenger in the vehicle.

Another man in the SUV suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle involved, also a man, was taken to a separate hospital. He had moderate injuries.

The police said a preliminary investigation had found that the SUV had traveled south to Hughes Lane and tried to turn east to the Holden Way.

During the curve, the SUV entered the path of a vehicle north in the Hughes Lane. The car was wide, which means that the front of a vehicle hit the side of another. The influence caused the SUV to overturn.

The BPD said that the speed seems to be no factor in the crash at that time. A possible participation of drugs or alcohol is examined according to the BPD.

The examination continues. Everyone is asked to call BPD at (661) 327-7111.
