Israel bombies Gaza to kill the Top Hamas leader, say officials

On Tuesday evening, Israeli fighter Jets bombed the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, around Mohammad Sinwar, one of Hamas's remaining top leaders in the enclave, according to two Israeli military officers.

Both officers spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not justified to speak publicly.

At about the same time, the Israeli military said that its armed forces had met a Hamas command center under the European Hospital near Khan Younis. An Israeli military spokeswoman rejected whether Mr. Sinwar was targeted in this strike.

According to videos from the scene checked by the New York Times, smoke columns in the hospital towered in the hospital. It was unclear whether hospital buildings were damaged in the strike.

Israel has threatened another large military offensive in the Gaza Strip, unless Hamas defines her weapons and turns the 20 living hostages that she still has, together with the remains of around 40 others. Hamas' leaders have refused to disarm and add that they would not release the prisoners unless Israel ended the war.

It is believed that Mr. Sinwar is one of the most high -ranking military commanders in Hamas in the Gaza Strip after more than a year and a half years of devastating war against Israel. He is the brother of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader, who was killed by Israeli forces last year and dominated the attacks on October 7, 2023, who triggered the war.
