Youth girls who were killed as a spectator to shoot Bronx drove home scooter, says family

The family of a 16-year-old girl who was shot in front of a bronx school as a spectator while going home, the judiciary asked for the teenager on Tuesday when the police were still looking for the weapon.

NYPD officers said Evette Jeffrey died after having hit a stray ball near Home Street and Tinton Avenue in Morrisania on Monday at 5 p.m. The shootout occurred alongside Bronx Latin, a prestigious middle and high school, and Jeffrey was declared dead in the Lincoln Hospital.

Her family and friends said reporters, she drove back into her apartment from the old building of the Morris High School, a few blocks, where she went to school. The family's house is just a short walk from the point where the shootout took place.

“I don't give you. I think your family is responsible for watching,” said Jeffrey's grandmother Lizette Ramirez about the shooter. “She is 16 forever. You took it away from us.”

In the family building on Tuesday morning, Ramirez and Jeffrey's mother, Kristen Abad, said that they were still working on the 16-year-old's death. They said that Jeffrey had dreamed of becoming a doctor during their growth, had several pets that they revered, and was looking forward to the college.

Mayor Eric Adams visited the scene on Monday evening and said that the alleged shooter was a 14-year-old boy who once threatened his mother with a weapon. The police said they were still looking for the teenager on Tuesday morning, and when the students arrived, there was a severe NYPD presence in the Bronx Latin.

The NYPD was supposed to present an update on the examination on Tuesday afternoon.

Jeffrey is the 10th teenager who dies this year as a result of gun violence, according to the police officers compiled by Gothamist. Keeping in the 42nd district, which includes Morrisania, Claremont and Crotona Park, have remained at the favorable value with the number of last year, as the data show.
