According to Schierbaum, head of the Atlanta police department, the crime in Atlanta has dropped. The boss together with other members of the Department for Criminal Police (CID) of the Department (CID) sat down with the local media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the crime numbers.

“Today we will go through some successes that we have achieved, and the community was an essential part of it,” said Schierbaum.

The combination press conference and the Q&A meeting were classified as a conversation and as an opportunity for Schierbaum and others to bring the crime data to the public.

“This is basically, as a seat in the Atlanta Police Department Public Affairs United Executive Director Chata M. Spikes, which several media members were explained before the start of the conversation/press conference.

On May 3, Schierbaum reported a total of 11% in Atlanta. In order to be more specific, crimes such as murder, robbery and car theft in 2025 were emphasized as successful efforts to combat crime by the Atlanta police.

Murders have dropped by 35%, tightened attacks have dropped by 27%and the car theft has not decreased. There were 30 murders in Atlanta this year, with the majority occurring due to the so -called “escalation disputes”. Only two of these murders are a result of domestic disputes.

“That is 30 too many,” said Schierbaum regarding the murders. The answer to this is not an answer to the police. The answer to this is a community answer. We don't have the ability to be there every time. ”

A deeper look at the murder numbers tells a story about who commits the crimes in Atlanta. The people who are arrested for murder are on average between 17 and 24 years old according to the latest data.

“These reductions are seen in key areas,” said Schierbaum.

Some of these other key areas are gangs and weapons in which 1,042 were recovered this year.

“We will continue to legally remove them,” said Schierbaum about the weapons, many of which are rescued during the arrests.

Robbery and motor vehicle theft are also below. A recent trend of car theft in the parking lot at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport forced the police authorities of Atlanta to add further patrols under cover and in marked vehicles, according to Rodney Jones with the car theft unit. Jones reported that there were several other federal and local authorities, including the FBI, HSI, Cobb County, DEKALB County, Clayton County and the Gwinnett County police authorities, who are on a chip in use.

“Due to the good work of our boys and these other agencies, we were able to arrest key people,” said Jones.

Schierbaum said that car brakes were always an “urgent crime in our city”.

During the presentation/conversation, arrested and searched criminals were displayed on a screen. These men were used as examples of high -ranking and recurring criminals that violate the law in Atlanta.

However, it wasn't all good news. There was a slight increase in rape and ownership crimes to record the data presented on Tuesday. Schierbaum said that the surrounding communities will be a big factor for spreading these figures. The property crime increases by 67%.

A further improvement in the figures comes from the E911 communication department, in which 911 recovery times compared to 2023 and 2024 have decreased by significant scope. In 2023, 911 calls were answered at an average time of 24 seconds, while in 2024 calls were answered in 12 seconds. The 2025 numbers in the first four months of 2025 are less than 10 seconds.

“It is everyone who contributes to this. It is a community answer,” said Schierbaum. “When we see that trends are developing, we are committing more resources.”
