NOPD announces preliminary crime statistics for April 19 to 26, 2025

The following is a weekly report on the urban crime statistics created by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period from 19 to 26 and 2025.

Remarkable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following remarkable arrests:

• On April 23, the NOPD Jamal Washington (black man, DOB: 05-17-1978) arrested two murder incidents that took place on July 31, 2025. Washington was associated with a homicide in the 8300 block of the South I-10-Dienststraße and another murder that took place in the 3700 block of the Texas Block. Washington was admitted to the community center of the community in Orleans Parish Justice for any case.
• On April 25th, the NOPD officials Tremaine Sturgis (Black Male, DOB: 06-013-1978) quickly arrested when examining a murder that took place that evening in the 4300 block of the Saint Claude Avenue. Sturgis was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center in a second degree.

Arms (arrests under 14:95 and sub-items)

To date, the NOPD has made 109 Morsts for the illegal possession of a firearm. This is a decrease of 51 percent compared to 223 arrests in the same period in 2024.

Weapon attacks

In addition, the NOPD had confiscated 578 firearms in criminal investigations in 2025 from April 21, which was a withdrawal of 33 percent compared to 867 such seizures in the same period in 2024.
