The Harrison County Sheriff's Office Honor's office killed in 1973

Gulfport, Miss. (WLOX) – The Harrison County's office honored his only representative to die on duty. On Tuesday, the MPs at family members joined Earl Wesley Phillips, Sr.

Phillips was shot in February 1973.

Harrison County's Sheriff has been organizing a monument to the murdered deputy for years.

“He dedicated his life to law enforcement. “He was Harrison County's first MP to be killed in service. Hopefully there will be no longer anymore.”

“It is a memory, not only of my officers, but also the public, which could happen every evening with these officers if they put on this uniform and go out,” said Sheriff Matt Haley. “These officials leave their house every evening and know if they will return.”
