“Cooper is just unique”: Coach K has high hopes for flags NBA future

The former star of Duke Blue Devils, Cooper Flagg, seems to be number 1 in the NBA design of 2025, and when the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA Draft Lottery on Monday evening-a 1.8% chance of winning 6-foot 9 striker to North Texas.

What does flag, No. 1 recruit in the 2024 class, does it do that it is worth being number 1? In the Tuesday edition of “The Herd”, the former Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski described what he loves to flag.

“Cooper is just unique,” said Krzyzewski. “He is so strong. His legs are so strong. Sporty, he is talented. If you add his sporting skills and competitive position, you have a very special guy. He can really achieve the ball. I think he is a good shooter who is trying to become a really good shooter.”

Flag has a spectacular Freshman season with the Blue Devils with an average of 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game, while shooting 48.1/38.5/84.0. Flagg earned countless awards: AP players of the year, Wooden Award winner and ACC player of the year. He then scored an average of 21.0 points per game in the five NCAA tournament games from Dukes.

If he had actually been selected for the first time, Flag would be the sixth player of Duke, who was hit with number 1 in the NBA draft, Art Heyman (1963), Elton Brand (1999), Kyrie Irving (2011), Zion Williamson (2019) and Paolo Banchero (2022), the other five.

Flagg would join a Mavericks team in which they exceeded a chaotic season in which they swap superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis in February and later took 10th place in the Western Conference at the Western Conference. With the Full Force Health Wise team, the 525-26 of the five strong Mavericks might be Irving, Klay Thompson, Flagg, Davis and Daniel Gafford. A year ago, the Mavericks were in the NBA final.

Krzyzewski's coaching college basketball was the 2021-22 season, and assistant Jon Scheyer followed him. The Blue Devils reached the last four last season, but lost a lead of six points in the last minute against the Houston Cougars in the last minute. Of course, Duke won five national titles under Krzyzewski, who is the first in NCAA history with 1,202 career winners, of which 1,129 from the 1980-81 to 2021-22 season came with the Blue Devils.
