Rohan Dennis received a two -year prison sentence today for his role in the “tragic accident”, which led to the death of his wife, Olympic and colleague Melissa Hoskins in 2023.

In December 2024, Dennis made a plea contract with prosecutors about the incident and made it so guilty of having committed a stricter action that is likely to harm. The prosecutors said that he was not responsible for the death of his wife and admitted that the incident was unintentional.

Hoskins was hit on December 30, 2023 by a vehicle driven by Dennis near her house in Adelaide. The court heard that the couple had argued about renovation work on their house. Dennis had driven away, but Hoskins had jumped on the bonnet of his car. Shortly afterwards she fell under the vehicle. She died in the hospital overnight.

Dennis' punishment was completely suspended, so that he continues to take care of the couple's two children, now six and four. He has also been banned from driving for five years and has a two -year good behavior bond.

“To describe the consequences of the events on December 30, 2023, since grief really does not do justice to the fear and turbulence that brought these events into the life of those who knew and loved their wife,” said judge Ian Press. The press stated that Dennis' Cooperation with the Investigation and said that his “determination to leave the area in order to de -escalate the argument, to explain why they acted in this way, but obviously in no way disregarded their wife's security with regard to the actions that form the basis, the basis of the charges.”

It was, said Press: “[Dennis’s] Obligation to stop the vehicle when driving this vehicle was dangerous [Hoskins’] Body well -being. “

Dennis did not comment when he left the court. Hoskins' parents, Peter and Amanda, said: “It is now time for us to continue what Melissa's expectations would be.

“How we make this in a meaningful way and a relevant way will take time when we find ourselves in our life without Melissa. In terms of Rohan, as hard as it will be, it is important that we also have a good man relationship with him.”

Dennis was a two-time world champion in the time trial discipline and a dual Olympic medalist before retiring at the end of the 2023 season. Hoskins was successful on both the street and on the route, a world champion of team tracking, an Olympian of several times and winner of the Tour of Chongming Island in 2012. She retired at the end of 2017 and married Rohan Dennis the following year.
