The Paso Robles police offer updates to investigate the child's death.

On Saturday, Paso Robles police believe that Brant Reyestrada left his son in the parking lot of the Paso Robles Inn, where he worked, left in his car, which led to the boy's death. The high temperature in Paso Robles that day was 99 degrees.

Detectives say it was likely that the 6-year-old boy passed out in the car before he succumbed to his injuries, but they are waiting for the autopsy results to confirm the cause of death and all previous injuries that the child suffered.

“I've been here for 27 years, and this is the first case of a child who dies in a car because I can remember,” said Detective Bureau Commander death Reher.

Rehner says that this case is all hands on deck. Three teams of investigators were sent to the Paso Robles Inn, the Twin Cities Community Hospital and the late child's house. Detectives say that several people were questioned, and the answers they gave did not match what the suspect told the investigators.

“If such a tragedy happens, we want that all detectives are involved, as much information as possible,” added Reher. “We try to give those who can no longer speak a voice.”

Both Rehner and the deputy chief Randy Harris say that they have never seen anything like this, and children are not so equipped to treat hot temperatures like adults.

“What usually happens is that the body tries to compensate for increased heat for a while,” said Harris. “So help us to regulate our body temperature a little better. Unfortunately, you don't have the breeze in a car that is a little better.”

Reyesstrada remains behind bars in prison by San Luis Obispo County without deposit. He is said to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
