What we know:

After Edward Johnston guilty, the conviction was guilty of causing the death of the then 8-year-old Javier Velez. The fatal crash occurred on July 23, 2023.

What you say:

“I definitely feel like a feeling of publication, but I also feel like what now? Now that the fight is over, what now,” asked Kaylah Smith. Shawnette Wilson from Fox 29 spoke to her in her house in Philadelphia, where she was sitting next to her with her son's ashes. She was in court for conviction on Tuesday morning.

“It was the best feeling that he was tied up and left so. It was the best feeling not to go out with his family again,” she said.

Edward Johnston had largely remained free in the court proceedings.

Smith says he had read the family an explanation.

“He only said: 'I know that you will hate me forever and I don't accuse you and I'm sorry and I can't imagine the pain.

Tuesday is a victory for the family that fought violently for Javi for justice, but they live with eternal sadness.

“Now we are still left with a hole in our hearts, now we are still all these mixed feelings and we will still mourn and stay without a child,” said Smith. She and Javi's father Orlando spoke before the judge condemned the verdict.

It is a moment when she says that you have been waiting for a year and nine months, and it is not only a message to Johnston, but also to others who drink and drive.

“The next time you think about being drunk behind this wheel, you only know that you could hurt someone child who is ready to go to war to make sure you get into prison to ensure that you get the worst and change the law,” said Smith.
