California grandfather James Norman was drawn to death by disturbed Carjacker Ryan Hewitt: Cops

A crazy Carjacker in California pulled an Army veterinarian and a popular grandfather half a mile until his death after accelerating the 79-year-old's car.

James “Jim” Norman died on Monday at 12:30 p.m. at an Arco petrol station in Norco when the 29 -year -old Ryan Hewitt jumped on the front of 12:30 p.m.

Hewitt raced with Norman, who desperately hung at the back seat of the car, the police said.

The police called witnesses who saw carjacking.

“The caller reported a man's witness who entered the driver's seat of a vehicle and partially drove with the vehicle owner on the back seat,” said police officer.

According to the police, Norman was finally thrown out of the car.

The investigators found his crumpled body half a mile from the petrol station and just a few miles from his house. Medical offenders hurried to the Septuagenarian into a nearby hospital, but his injuries were too serious. He was declared dead in the hospital.

“I just hope that he went quickly and I am grateful for the people – and I hope to meet them – who surrounded him and protect his body, so that he was not only in the middle of the street outside,” Nicole Lauritsen, Nicole Lauritsen, told 7 ABC Eyewitness News.

Lauritsen also told the station that her father had plans to meet for dinner. She said she believes that the murderer knew that her father would hold on for his life, but got in panic and continued.

“He was too old and frail to get out before the door hit him,” she said. “He knew that my father was hanging, but only in panic and continued until he fell out of the car.”

Her father wore hearing aids, but did not wore her at the time, so he probably didn't even notice it when the Carjacker jumped to the driver's seat, Lauritsen told Kcal News.

“He didn't have his hearing aids, so I guess that he didn't hear the vacuum and suddenly the support of his car,” she said.

The investigators called Lauritsen and asked them if they had a way to pursue their father's phone. She said that she could follow his car because, according to Kcal, she had put an Airtag on it to keep an eye on him.

The police found the car parked by Norman and not occupied.

Shortly afterwards they found and arrested Hewitt. He was charged with carjacking and murder, the police said.

Norman lived a modest life, but according to a Gofundme page that was set up to pay for his funeral and burial costs.

He served in the army and worked in his life several jobs, including the construction, vehicle transport and “even as a pilot in the sky”.

“His passion for travel for work and exploration led him to many corners of the United States,” said the Gofundme page. “Whether something was built up with his hands or stories are shared from the street, Jim brought energy and authenticity into everything he did.”
