Nanuet, NY – After the sale of WRCR radio to Red Apple Media and the subsequent pivot point for the simulcasting of WABC 770 -AM programs, Rockland News will be re -entering to fill the local media gap.

The digital publication, which was bought in 2020 and now with over 5,500 stories published and an audience of up to 120,000 monthly supervisors, converted its weekly supplement podcast into a livestream morning show.

The show had already published shows on platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify several times a week, which, in addition to the five cities of Rockland County as well as local weather and traffic updates, as well as from a variety of guests that range from Senator Bill Weber, to Rocklands County Manager, as well as the local supervisors, retail, music facilities, creators and community -arrangements were picked up.

“We are in a unique position to do this – right now,” said Tom Ossa, CEO of Rockland News Inc. and Rockland Web Design. “We have built our digital setup for five years, as well as another 14 with Rockland Web Design, my first company – still strong.”

Ossa also quoted the various possibilities of how the public can already connect to the company's media properties. “So we have the Rocklandnews.com website, the Rockland News Podcast, the Rockland Newsletter, and now we have this new weekday live stream. We have also been interviewing local civil servants and community members for 5 years. That is four years with the previous podcast and for a solid year for Rockland News.

Rockland News do not edit public emergency broadcasts. Only the standards

The Rockland News Executive outlined the simple plan. “News, traffic, weather. Simply like that. We are working on local sports and announcements of community events and will increase our interviews with local stakeholders in the district. But everything will be quick. We think 10-15 minutes, max. People are busy.

But Ossa also made it clear that he and his team have no plans to take responsibility for emergency transmission – “this is a different degree of infrastructure, and stations such as WABC and WCBs should cope with it,” said Ossa. “We are still a small, shabby team of 8-10 people-teeth all of our participants and sources. So we know where we can be useful, and that is basically just listening and maintaining these human connections alive. For emergency information, we are more than happy to relate to WABC, to be in connection with you, everything that is in contact with you, but public security is public security.”

That on the Radio of Wrcr continued with regular daily radio for many years to his audience on 1700. A planned sale was rumored for almost six months. However, some within the radio station were still surprised that the final sale, including some employees and radio operators from WRCR. Several long -time hosts such as Jeff and Wills Morning Show as well as Bob Triveros Doo WoP Dream Machine suddenly stopped last week, shortly before the planned new studio opening and the Garner Arts Center.

Over the weekend, the FRCR Facebook page was also deactivated and no longer available to the public. The website, which is still hosted by Rockland Web Design, is active, but no new content has been published. The fate of the station shots, -ligaments, MP3s and other file formats, which have been saved by the original WRCR station for many years, is unknown, but is probably transferred together with that on the 1700 frequency to the new owners, Big Apple Media.

“It is a shame. These are literally recorded content. I hope that it will be reposted – there are some great shows over the years. Fortunately, we have been taking local news and interviews at Rockland News for years. Now we are now being a regular morning format, a local weather, traffic and the announcements for public services.” Ossa added. “We have 30 years of local contacts available to select and invite them from the show. For example, on September 27 of this year there is a huge meal on Rockland benefit concert in the Clover Stadium.

A famous story with familiar voices ends abruptly

The move of Rockland News follows the calm but effective departure of WRCR from locally produced content. After taking over the broadcaster by Red Apple Media owner of WABC 770:00, the station ended his independent programming at the beginning of this month and characterized the end of an era of the rock-centered radio, which said almost 70 years.

Since then, Senator Bill Weber has called for the restoration of the Rockland programming to the frequency of 500 p.m., although Red Apple Media has not yet made any statements about such plans.

Several insiders over the weekend, supporting of anonymity, Rockland News shared that WABC actually plans to return local content to AM 1700. Local personalities such as Steve Popering, Neil Richter, Jeff and Will and many others have been staunches of the FRCR air waves for a long time and not only offered news, but also a sense of sense of community.

The closure of WRCR also sent shock waves through the local online community and sparked debates about the loss of hyperlocal media. However, many of them also admitted that they had no longer switched on the radio for a while.

The relocation of traditional AM/FM to digital first-first platforms such as podcasts and live streaming has won steam for over ten years, but Covid has charged the transition. The most challenge is the latest initative initiary of several electric car manufacturers who do not include this on the -Broadcast band in new vehicles, citing noise disorders between battery and signal. Several US officials recently introduced laws to keep on the radio in new cars.

Invitation for guests -morning show host

Ossa also sees this as an opportunity to open doors for participation in the community and invite local podcasters, influencers and bourgeois votes as a host. “This is not just about our Rockland messages. We want to be a digital line amount for many of the local voices that we already have. So we invite people to apply as a guest host for the show -start once a week. We will probably have some people who have applied at some point in June in June.”

Ossa, who himself has a unique story with radio, operated his first business in the offices of the WRCR stadium in the CLOVER stage in 2014 as part of an exchange contract, emphasized the developing role of digital media. “The technology changed quickly, and luckily we always dedicated part of our budget to research new technologies. We were literally walking with the live stream in a business day. We had eight guests on the first day and four on the second day.”

For those who take part in the New Morning Show or hosts, Rockland News has opened applications on their website. The application is available on the alarm side by selecting the “Podcasting” option.

When asked why Ossa was able to take on this new live streaming project, he said: “Well, primarily -the public is needed. While larger networks include national and international stories and sponsors in their local programs, we focus 100% on Rockland.

“Secondly, we enjoy it too and we have the resources for a while. So we can now plant the flag just as well and bring our esteemed colleagues for the trip.”

In the meantime, Rockland County residents can find their headlines, weather and traffic in the Rockland News podcast – even if the media formats change, the need for a local voice is strong.
