If a large earthquake occurs near the coast, a destructive tsunami can be created that meets near coasts in a few minutes and also runs throughout the oceans and adds 1000 kilometers away and damage up to 24 hours later. In order to draw far away coasts, internationally coordinated tsunami early warning systems such as the Pacific tsunami warning and reduction system (PTWS) were set up in order to quickly provide the countries with tsunami threatening information.

2015 is the 50th year of the PTWS. The system was founded in 1965 in response to the earthquake of 1960 M9.5 in front of the southern Chili, which produced a tsunami that crossed the Pacific Chili, who killed hundreds in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. The PTWS has been built over the decades through international cooperation and the contributions of the federal states and organizations as part of the UNESCOIOC frame.

In order to raise awareness of the dangers of tsunamis and to inform the public about how the PTWs contribute to spreading warnings about the rapprochement with Tsunami, ITIC has created a 6-minute outreach videos in cooperation with Chile.
