Jayson Tatum's injury was broken as Achilles. Celtics Star is now recovering from the operation.

Jayson Tatum was subjected to a successful operation to repair a broken Achilles tendon with just Achilles, the Boston Celtics said on Tuesday. The Celtics expect Tatum to make complete recovery, but did not provide a schedule for his return.

The 27-year-old will miss the rest of the playoff run in Boston this summer and possibly the entire 2025-26 season. There is the possibility that he could return in the next season if he recovered quickly, but the Celtics will be for the foreseeable future without their superstar player.

It is a devastating blow for the defending NBA champions Both in the present and in the near future. Tatum will be back for the Celtics at some point, but the team will probably look much different from the one he wanted to lead to a win on Monday evening.

Jayson Tatum injury

Tatum was injured with three minutes in Boston's game 4 against the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden. He plunged in the key after a loose ball, but fell on the floor with obvious pain as he reached his right ankle. It had to be helped from the ground and was brought through the arena in a wheelchair.

Tatum led the Celtics again in every category in this off -season. He had 43 points, eight rebounds, four templates and four steals against the Knicks before leaving the game on Monday evening. The loss of 121-113 gave the Celtics in a 3-1 series against the Knicks in their semi-finals of the Eastern Conference.

Overcoming this deficit without Tatum will be extremely difficult, especially if Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis are still not in full strength. Game 5 is on Wednesday evening in the TD Garden in Boston.

When could Jayson Tatum return from his Achilles injury?

Shortly after the Tatum news was broken, Brandon Truitt from WBZ-TV spoke to Dr. Gregory Waryasz, an orthopedic surgeon and director of Foot & Knole Sports Medicine at Mass General Brigham. Dr. Waryasz hadn't seen MRI, but said that the Celtics star was probably a recovery of 9 to 12 months.

“The Achilles are the main fragrance in the lower leg below the knee. It connects the calf muscles with the heel bone and enables them to push it out,” he said. “First restoration [of a rupture] is a few weeks without weight, followed by a long time in a trunk-normally three months. Then they work on the functional restoration and return to sporting activities after five months.

“Usually for someone in Tatum's situation, it is a 9-12-month injury,” said Dr. Waryasz.

Celtics without Jayson Tatum

Tatum rarely misses games for the Celtics, a real Ironman and a work animal in today's “load management” NBA. The longest route he missed in his career was five games, and that was due to Covid in the 2021 season. Since Tatum 2017 entered the NBA, no player has played more minutes in the league than the Celtics star.

He missed his first playoff game a few weeks ago when he got Boston's game 2 against Orlando Magic with a wrist injury, but it only failed for this one game. A total of 11 games in regular and post -season missed Tatum this year, and Boston went 9-2 in these games.

However, we note that six of these victories were against teams that were not interested in winning games in Portland, Utah, Brookly, Phoenix, Washington and Charlotte.

The loss of Tatum is a massive blow for Boston's offer for two consecutive titles in this post -season, and if he could not have the next season next season, the Celtics could initiate some major changes in the off -season.
