Rohan Dennis condemned two years of prison sentence after the car accident had killed Ms. Melissa Hoskins Australia News

The Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis has received a suspended prison sentence for a street incident that led to the death of his wife, the Olympian Melissa Hoskins.

The 34 -year -old Dennis appeared before the district court in South Australia on Wednesday, after he had guilty he had committed a stricter action that is likely to harm.

Judge Ian Press said Dennis said that the description of the consequences of the events of December 30, 2023 as tragically “grief really does not live up, the fear and turbulence that brought these events into the life of those who knew and loved their wife”.

The 32 -year -old Hoskins was hit by Dennis' vehicle near her house in Medindie in Adelaide's Inner North. She suffered serious injuries and died in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The court was previously informed that the couple had argued about kitchen renovations before Dennis left his house and drove away.

The determination that Dennis and Hoskins made a very successful athlete could “sometimes lead to both of them taking an insoluble position during a dispute,” said the judge on Wednesday.

“I accept that they have a feeling of responsibility for everything that happened. I accept that they could have been different if they could have acted in a different way.”

It was important to recognize that Dennis was not accused of causing his wife's death, said Press. Hoskins had jumped on his car.

Driving at every speed when there was a person in the bonnet was “inherently risky and dangerous,” said the judge.

After Hoskins got out of the bonnet, she opened the door, the Dennis closed without stopping.

“Unknown for her, her wife held on the car as she accelerated the street. Then she fell and lost her life,” said Press.

He noticed that Dennis' “Stoic presentation does not necessarily mean that it does not feel a feeling of guilt for everything that happened”.

Dennis was incomplete in the dock when the judge sentenced him to one year and five months in prison, which was reduced due to his guilty claim of two years and two months.

“In view of your guilty satisfaction, your regrets that you are the only supervisor for your young children and have stated all of your other personal circumstances and the circumstances of the insult, I am satisfied that there is a good reason to suspend this judgment,” said the judge.

Dennis agreed to a two -year -old two -year good behavior bond. His driver's license was suspended for five years.

The judge warned him that a violation of the driving suspension would be a violation of the bond, which means that Dennis would be detained.

Outside of the court, Hoskins' father Peter said it was time for the family to “do the expectation of us from us”.

“We want to continue to be an integral part of the life of their children and their future. How we do this in a meaningful and relevant way will take time,” he said.

“With regard to Rohan, as hard as it will be, it is important that we have a well -known relationship with him. [The children] earn that. You didn't do anything wrong. “

Peter Hoskins in a brache voice said: “We miss Melissa terribly.”

The family had not yet apologized by Dennis: “But I am sure that it will come in time,” he said.

“There are two small children that are trapped in this tragedy,” he said.

“So that you can lose your father … albeit a temporary loss … I don't think that would be ideal at all. It would be from the start [a jail term] We didn't follow anything. “

Hoskins competed in team tracking at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and was in the squad, who won the 2015 world championship.

Dennis won two world championship titles in the Road Time Trial and Silver in team tracking on the route at the 2012 Olympics. He claimed bronze in the road time trial at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
