The Australian cyclist Dennis Rohan is suspended because of the death of the woman for death penalty

Rohan Dennis, an Australian world champion cyclist, received a suspended prison sentence on Wednesday because of his role in a vehicle incident in which his wife Melissa Hoskins, another Olympic cyclist, was fatally injured.

In December 2023, Ms. Hoskins was hit in Adelaide by a car that was driven by Mr. Dennis, the authorities announced at the time. Ms. Hoskins, a celebrated Olympic cyclist, later died of her injuries in a hospital. She was 32.

In December last year, the 34 -year -old Mr. Dennis owed to have committed a stricter action that probably caused damage that corresponded to a maximum penalty of seven years. He was initially charged with dangerous driving what led to death and drove without the due care, for which he was able to have in prison for 15 years in order.

On Wednesday, a judge at the district court of South Australia in Adelaide sentenced Mr. Dennis to a 17-month prison sentence. The judgment was suspended in a two -year good behavioral bond, which means that Mr. Dennis does not serve in prison if he does not violate the conditions of the bond. Mr. Dennis was also excluded from driving for five years.

In his convicts, judge Ian Press said that Mr. Dennis did not take Ms. Hoskin's security into account. But he quoted Mr. Dennis 'cooperation with the police and his guilty plea, his repentance and his responsibility for his and wife of Hoskins' both small children as reasons for the suspended punishment.
