The former Olympic cyclist and world champion Rohan Dennis received a suspended prison sentence for an accident known as “tragic accident”, which led to the death of his wife, the Olympic Melissa Hoskins.

The 34-year-old appeared before the district court in South Australia on Wednesday after an earlier indictment of a tightened act that had probably caused damage.

Dennis was arrested after the 32 -year -old Hoskins was hit by his vehicle in front of her home in Medindie in Adelaide North on December 30, 2023. Hoskins suffered serious injuries in the crash and died in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The court was informed that the couple had argued about kitchen renovations before Dennis left his home and drove away. The court also heard that Hoskins had jumped onto the car of the car during the incident.

Dennis was sentenced to one year, four months and 28 days in prison on Wednesday to be suspended for two years. The prison sentence was reduced by two years and two months due to his guilty request and it was placed on a two -year good behavior bond.

His driver's license was also suspended for five years.

“I accept that you have a feeling of responsibility for everything that happened. I accept that you could have been about what could have been different if you could have acted in any other way,” said judge Ian Press on Wednesday.

Dennis showed little emotions when the press condemned him.

“In view of your guilty satisfaction, your regrets that you are the only supervisor for your young children and have stated all of your other personal circumstances and the circumstances of the insult, I am satisfied that there is a good reason to suspend this judgment,” said the judge.

The crime sentenced a maximum punishment of seven years in prison, but the lawyer Jane Abbey asked that her client received a suspended prison sentence that was not rejected by the law enforcement.

During the applications for convicts in April, Amanda Hoskins said her daughter loved Dennis, “and I know that she would never deliberately injure her.”

“I think this is a tragic accident. Your temperament is your downfall and has to be tackled,” she said.

Hoskins' funeral took place in her hometown Perth, Western Australia, and in February 2024 a public memorial service took place in Adelaide. Dennis visited the service with her two children.

Hoskins competed in team tracking at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and was in the squad, who won the 2015 world championship. Dennis won two world championship titles in the Road Time Trial and Silver in team tracking at the 2012 Olympic Games and bronze in the Road Time Trial at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
