Pakistaner envoy caught after Bangladesh in Honeytrap? What we know so far

Syed Ahmed Marof, the Pakistan's high commissioner in Bangladesh, has rely on vacation online after videos of his alleged honeytraps.

Reports of the Bangladesh Daily Prothom Aloen claimed that Maroof came to Islamabad via Dubai on May 11th. His sudden exit was associated with a suspected honeytrap scandal.

However, civil servants confirmed that Maroof is officially on vacation. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not made any explanation on this matter. The deputy deputy high commissioner in Dhaka, Muhammad Asif, has temporarily joined as a reigning high commissioner.

According to a high -ranking official of the Foreign Ministry in Bangladesh, the Pakistani Hochmommission informed the Ministry of Marof's departure on the same day when he left. In the notification, however, it was not mentioned how long he would be away or what reason behind the vacation.

Reports also showed that Maroof's vacation could take about two weeks. His unexpected absence has caused a storm of speculation online.

Viral videos and honey faults surfaces

Rumors about the scandal escalated online according to photos and alleged intimate videos and showed Maroof with a Bangladeshic woman. This also led to speculation that the envoy was caught.

A tweet from the voice of Bangladeschhi Hindus claimed: “The Pakistani ambassador to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, was in a relationship with a Muslim girl in Bangladesh. After some intimate details became public, he was sent on vacation.”

It also added: “There was a time in which Pakistan Bangladeshische Muslim women raped. Nowadays some Muslim girls are willingly in Pakistani in Bangladesh.”

Although the authenticity of the videos has not been confirmed, the scandal has fueled speculation that Maroof could have been endangered by secret service employees or opposition parties.

Syed Ahmed Maroof was involved in Bangladesh in Pakistan's diplomatic reach. In December 2023 he took over the Pakistan Hochkommissar in Bangladesh.
