(CNN) – Celine Dion appeared on Tuesday, 37 years after winning the song competition for this year's moderator of Switzerland, a surprise video appearance at Eurovision.

The singer won the competition for Switzerland in 1988 with “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi”. She competed against singers from 20 other countries in Dublin, Ireland. For the Eurovision rules, the participants do not have to be a citizen of the competing country that they represent.

Your message was broadcast on a huge video screen on the back of the stage on Tuesday evening. She said: “Dear Eurovision Family and Candidates. I would love it if I am now together in Basel in Basel. Switzerland will take a special place in my heart forever. It is a country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary.

“The Eurovision song competition for Switzerland in 1988 was a life-changing moment for me and I am so grateful for everyone who supported me.”

The 57 -year -old Dion continued: “It is so beautiful and emotionally see how Switzerland wins and organizes this incredible event again. For people in Switzerland, thank you very much for your love. This night is yours and I hope you feel as proud as I do.”

Then, when she spoke in French, she added: “The music not only connects us this evening, not only at the moment. Wonderful. It is our strength, our support and our support in the moments when we need it. I love all of you, Europe and the rest of the world, of course, I love you.”

After their news, several singers of the last year performed a cover by Dion's winning song from 1988. At that time it was a contemplative fight when Dion defeated the British second -placed Scott Fitzgerald for only one point.

The singer was already known in Canada and France, but her entry in the Eurovision brought her to international fame. Shortly after the win, she started working on “Unison”, her debut English -language album.

As early as December 2022, Dion announced that she had taken the time from her professional obligations to concentrate on her health after she had announced that she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff -Personal syndrome.
