Benches, tables that were removed by Betances

Alba Lugo, who has arthritis in both knees, needs a hiker who is in her apartment complex for food donations.

Mobility problems are only one reason why it is upset that two weeks ago more than a dozen benches and four tables from the Betances Hofs Hof in the 510 East 146th Street were removed.

The long -time Kesha Peppers also misses the community, which has space to sit together.

The residents have access to a park in the complex that has benches, but they say that management blocks it with a chain when they go home at 5 p.m.

This measure corresponds to why Wavecrest Management and Nycha say that they have removed the seating areas – in order to get the residents to safety with a recent increase in crime. Ball holes are still in front of the management office, directly opposite a day care center.

Wavecrest Management said in an explanation:

“Due to the recent increase in crimes on site, the inner courtyard benches became the safety of our residents, their families and children and workers at Headstart Day Care on the campus of the Betances.

Nycha said in an explanation:

“In response to the recent violent crimes nearby, the Pact partner of Nycha, Wavecrest Management, removed a seating area as a preventive security measure to protect residents and employees.”

Some residents said outside the camera that they see both sides and hope that drug use, garbage and violence in the area decrease.
