Homeschoolers achieve large rankings at Texas Esports Championships

Texas Homeschool students have put two of their teams in the top 5 in the top 5 in a nationwide gaming competition -all within a year after the existence of their group.

“The performance is particularly important as the first homeschool eSport team in the coastal bend and the first to join a nationwide high school asport league,” said Kristin Haston for the ABC partner in Corpus Christi.

The Texas Scholastic Esports Federation (Texsef) organized the three -day championships that were completed on May 3 at Baylor University.

According to the group's press release, more than 1,000 athletes took part in the event on the Facebook page.

Eight homeschool students accepted, whereby the group took fifth place at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros Ultimate Crew.

Develop “college, career and military willingness” through games

HomeSchool participants cited several advantages of the team competition, from creating new friendships to promoting individual games.

“This group? Really strange. Very interesting people,” joked Kai Davis. “They are pretty cool. They are really good in this game – very passionate.”

This passion extends to the parents of the students because the group would not have started without a homeschool and coach Rachel Lebowitz.

“Instead of traveling out of the city to take part in competitions, the family decided to bring eSports home by founding a team in Corpus Christi for pupils,” wrote Haston.

For the next school year, the Coastal Christian Homeschool Esports Team (CCHS) invites students aged 11 to 18-a single one from homeschools, private and charter school dazzu to take part in team representatives this August.

The group is connected to Coastal Christian Homeschool, which explains their approach to learning on their website: “Our athletes are not only physically trained by our volunteers, but also cared for mentally in a Christian environment.”

The participants can also enjoy advantages in future careers from their gaming experience, says Texsef.

“We believe that eSports can be an accessible, integrative and fair way to college, career and military willingness,” explains the non -profit organization on its website “for all Texas students”.
