Man arrested after the ball had fired hits at home, single mother and cancer survivor kills

Berthoud, Colo. (Kusa) – A city mourns the loss of a woman who has overcome a lot in her life, but last week her life ended senselessly.

It is selfless and resilient, as the Jennifer James family describes.

She was a single mother who raised her children and fought with breast cancer four times.

She underwent chemotherapy when a ball hit a window in her house and then hit and killed.

“She was the mother of four children and she fought against cancer at the time. It was the first thing her friend told me when she called me,” said Jonah Beeken.

Beeken has lived in the city since 2007. He said violence was unknown in the area.

“It really hit near home. These are four doors, less than a quarter mile from my shop where children play every day. Other business owners in the region actually sent some late night text messages in which they said that there were random shots and blocked when they were still in their business,” he said.

Beeken did not know exactly what happened until the MPs asked for surveillance material.

“They opened the street and down and checked the buildings. I knew it was our community and it was someone who was important to us because we were small,” he said.

James was diagnosed for the first time when she was only 29 years old. She was 49 years old when she was shot.

Her daughter said her mother, who had never complained about cancer treatment in the past 20 years, had just undergone a double mastectomy and the youngest scans looked good.

The police arrested the 27-year-old Ebenezer Worku. He admitted to having fired the gun, but said that he did not notice that the ball had hit someone.

According to court documents, he suffered from mental health problems.
