Olympic highlights 14/05/2025

At a reception that was organized by the Japanese Olympic Committee of the Japan Olympic Museum after the conference ceremony, President Bach emphasized that he accepted the command in the name of the entire IOC and the entire Olympic movement: “Because without the support of all partners and friends here in Japan, the Olympia games Tokyo 2020 would not have happened.”

At a reception, which was organized by the Japanese Olympic Committee and the Japanese Paralympic Committee to celebrate the order recipients, the Prime Minister of Japan, Ishiba Shigeru, congratulated the Olympic movement award winners on behalf of the Japanese government. The reception was visited by the incumbent JOC President Mitsuya Yuko. JPC President Mori Kazuyuki; Koike Yuriko, the governor of Tokyo; Hashimoto Seiko, former president of the Tokyo 2020 organization committee; and JOC Honorary member Takeda Tsunekazu. At the meeting, President Bach thanked the Japanese partners and stakeholders for their role at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

During his stay in Tokyo, President Bach visited the IOC member Yamashita Yasuhiro, to whom he thanked for his great contribution to the success of the 2020 Olympic Games. They talked about Tokyo 2020 and the IOC President wished him well.

Throughout his visit to Japan, President Bach was accompanied by IOC Honorary member Igaya Chiharu and IOC member Ota Yuki. Full press release here.

Before traveling to Kuwait, the IOC President took part in the opening of the sailing period of the sailing time VaudoiseOne of the oldest barques built at the Geneva Lake and listed as a historical monument. The Swiss Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin and members of the “Confrérie des Pirates d'Achy” joined him.

President Bach received the mayor and the members of the city council of his hometown Tauberbischom in the Olympic House.
