Kevin Durant wins the Magic Johnson Award from PBWA for the 2024-25 season

Kevin Durant received his 15th NBA All-Star selection this season with the Phoenix Sun.

Kevin Durant from The Phoenix Suns won the Magic Johnson Award 2024-25, who honors the NBA player, who best combines excellent performance on the square with cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans, said the Professional Basketball Writers Association today.

Durant scored an average of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season and was appointed all-star for the 15th time. In front of the court, Durant consistently promoted an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness to reporters who cover the NBA. This is his second time that he received the award he received for the first time in 2010-11.

“We are very happy to honor KD again,” said PBWA President Howard Beck. “Kevin was one of the most thoughtful and most accessible stars of the NBA for a long time. He always takes time for reporters, be it for interviews with the record or only for an informal chit chat, and he never shits away from any topic. Returning of changing rooms after pandemic and recognizing how critical access to the structure of the trust and relationship between players and journalists is.”

Donovan Mitchell from the Cleveland Cavaliers finished second in this year. The other finalists, based on Nominations of PBWA members, were Bam Adebayo by The Miami Heat, Tyrese Haliburton from the Indiana Pacers and Draymond Green from the Golden State Warriors. A coordination of the full PBWA membership showed the winner.

Durant is the fourth two -time winner, who joins Stephen Curry (2016, 2024), Damian Lillard (2017, 2020) and Shane Battier (2007, 2013).

The award created in 2001 was named in honor of Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the former Los Angeles Lakers star, who was involved in his career in Hall of Fame with the media, thoughtful and gracious.

The PBWA honors an NBA PR employee (Brian Mcintyre Award), Coach (Rudy Tomjanovich Award) every year and Star Player (Magic Johnson Award), who exaggerates everything to work with the media and inform fans. According to the current rules of the PBWA, which were accepted in 2020, no team or a person can win in consecutive years.

The PBWA consists of more than 200 authors and editors who regularly report the NBA and WNBA for newspapers, magazines and online news agencies.
