The Panasonic S5iix lost some functions at the beginning of this year, but it still live via RTMPS live streams

The Panasonic S5iix was updated to version 2.2 at the beginning of this year, and there are some misunderstandings in relation to what the update has added, and what is even more important, which has removed, including some live streaming functions.

Panasonic announced the S5IIX firmware in January alongside updates for the S5II (version 3.2), GH7 and G9 II. While the S5II and S5iix share many characteristics, only the latter model supports wireless live streaming.

The 2.2 firmware for the S5iix adds things like improved subject detection for aircraft and trains, new frame marking settings, harvest zoom functionality and more. The Lumix Lab Smartphone app, which includes remote recordings, wireless IP streaming and image transmission functions, also added improved compatibility.

A list of changes in connection with security functions, including the removal of automatic Wi-Fi compounds, the deduction of TKIP and without encryption options as well as removal of features for wired LAN, image transmission and RTMP streaming.

Version 2.2 also optimizes the live streaming functionality of the S5iix. Because of what Panasonic describes as “security improvements”, the S5iix supports no longer wired LAN streaming via RTP or RTSP. In addition, image transmission to the PC via Wi-Fi was removed in Europe, as was streaming via RTMP.

Live streaming via RTMPS (real-time messaging protocol), however)) should remain available.

Nevertheless, a Reddit user who was published on the Lumix Subreddit that Panasonic “lies over functions” and that Panasonic support confirmed that “all live streaming options were removed” from the S5IIX and thanks to firmware 2.2.

“If you take care of live streaming on this camera, do not update firmware 2.2, the website and the patch grade lies if you say that it still works with RTMPs,” the user writes.

This includes screenshots of a conversation with Panasonic Support online, which a team from Panasonic Support team shows that RTMPS together with all other streaming functions were removed from the S5iix due to a “change in European laws”. Support member continues to say: “This is not a Panasonic problem”, but a problem with the law.

So there are some things that have to be taken into account immediately, including the Reddit poster, which, according to the firmware 2.2 update, start a live stream in his S5iix that Panasonic said that RTMPS streaming would still work everywhere and that the customer service employee does not say things that do not match the broader communication of Panasonic.

Petapixel Contacted Panasonic directly to learn more.

“Live stream with S5iix via RTMPS protocol is still available” Petapixel. “This was a misunderstanding of the customer service.”

When asked to confirm that RTMPS is still available in all regions, including Europe, Panasonic said yes.

It is unclear what exactly happens to the S5iix of the Redditor if you use RTMPS to carry out live streaming, but all problems are not Because Panasonic deliberately removed the function from the camera. The company is clear: Live streaming via RTMPS on the S5iix was not removed in any region.
