Ceremony, which was held in Pulaski County, who were killed in the service

Somerset, Ky. (WKYT) -The life of six law enforcement officers who died on duty were recognized during an event on Wednesday morning at the Somerset Cemetery.

The Somerset police officers entered Pulaski County, as part of a national week of police.

Honoring three from the Somerset police department and three from the Sheriff office, which died on duty from 1891 to 2002.

“It is important to see it. It is to get out here to physically see the tombstones to remember it,” said Josh Wesley, chief of police from Somerset.

It was 23 years since the former Sheriff Sam Catron was killed in the Pulaski County. Three people were charged, one died in prison, but the others will be on probation in less than two years in April 2027.

“It never gets better,” said Catron's sister Nancy.

In 1964 she lost her father, the police chief of Somerset, Harold Catron, then her brother Sheriff Sam Catron in 2002.

“You always learn new things about people you have interacted with and people from whom you helped you not knew that you were there,” she said.

The current sheriff Bobby Jones was in the night in which he was killed in the fish roast and worked as a deputy.

“Bring memories. I was lucky enough to be hired by Sheriff Sammy Catron. He hired me and put me on as deputy sheriff years ago,” said Jones.

The Burnside police will have a service in Cole Park on Saturday at 2 p.m. to appreciate civil servants who died in the duty of this community.
