Biological mother of the canton of 3-year-old starved by adoptive parents, speaks out

Canton, Ohio (Woio)-the Canton police reacted to a house on Gilbert Circle NE on May 5 after reporting that a 3-year-old “didn't breathe” in his bed.

According to court documents, the adoptive mother Jamie Thompson and the adoptive father, Demetres Givens, had starved to death at the point where he was malnourished for months.

After the child started showing signs of his malnutrition, the couple canceled various appointments with doctors, which ultimately led to his death. The cause was found as hunger.

“It is unimaginable,” said the biological mother of 3-year-old Myracle Givens. “I never thought that I would see my older brother, a person with whom I have grown up since my baby, for something about one of my children.”

Myracle had lost custody of her children after home problems with her former partner, and since the 3-year-old Berko Givens was born after her children were resumed, Berko was brought into nursing.

According to Canton's police report, Thompson had called for help after Givens had checked the baby in his room on the upper floor, where he no longer reacted.

The couple will be charged in Stark County on Thursday at 9 a.m.
