New dashboard interfaces Allentown, PA, crime data to the public

(TNS) – The mayor of Allentown, Matt Tuerk and chief of police Charles Roca, presented years in the manufacture on Tuesday years: a comprehensive online fitting board in which the residents can be reported in any district.

“[The dashboard] Is an action that is part of a broader initiative that focuses on transparency and accountability in public security, and is based on the very simple idea that when people can see what happens, we can trust that we do something about it, ”said Tuerk at a press conference.

To date, the dashboard contains crime data on crime data at the level of crime level from January 1, 2024, and Tuerk said that it was updated in “very close to real time”. The recent incident on the dashboard on Tuesday morning was a ruthless incident, which was reported on Monday at 11:41 p.m. The city is currently “researching” the possibility of adding more historical crime data to the dashboard so that the residents can compare historical average values.

The city experienced historical low violent crimes in 2024, including the lowest number of murders – four – Citywide Crime data on the FBI website for 2000, but this data is missing the specificity of the neighborhood level of the city board.

In incidents, incidents can be sorted over the crime type on Allentown's new crime and searched for a certain time frame. For example, the city has received eight reported violent crimes so far in May – seven heavy attacks and a robbery. The crimes reported on the dashboard include the date, time, neighborhood and type of incident, but no identifying information about the people involved.

“Part of my hope is that this will encourage individuals, our citizens and our business owners to report crimes or incidents in the city because it is important that we are informed,” said Roca. “You will often see that individuals go to social media and publish a problem there. Well, these seconds are valuable to report that we can react through our communication center.”

The dashboard and its data are currently only available in English. Tuerk said that the city could also check through the translation of the website into Spanish, possibly using translation software that uses artificial intelligence.

Tuerk, who runs into a second term for re -election, has made the city's downtimate a cornerstone of his re -election campaign. Ed Zucal, Tuerk's opponent at the Democratic Mayor elections on May 20, claimed that the city's width was too high, although it was a downward trend last year, and criticized the city's approach to coping with the quality of life.

Tuerk said on Tuesday that a lower level of violent crime in the city will help to address problems of quality of life of quality of life such as noise, garbage and vandalism.

“We see a downward trend in all activities and that is – there is nothing that has an impact and creates a large level of concern,” said Tuerk about the city's crime trends. “It does not mean that our people take a step back or don't worry about things. We stay vigilant about all concerns about public security in the city of Allentown.”
