John Cena still supports Vince McMahon despite the scandal

John Cena has been supported by Vince McMahon – even if the Internet is not enthusiastic.

The WWE legend, which is currently going a farewell tour before he withdraws from wrestling in December 2025, starts the heat again because he says he loves the man who gave him his big break. But despite the counter reaction, Cena does not withdraw.

In a new interview with US Weekly, the 48-year-old wrestler Hollywood star spoke the controversy about his continued public support of the former WWE boss. The now 79-year-old McMahon stands in front of a mountain of serious allegations, including sexual misconduct, unfaithful covering up and a top-class lawsuit for sex trading that was submitted at the beginning of this year. Nevertheless, Cena's connection with him is deep.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” said Cena when he was asked about the criticism. “As I have the right to have an emotional connection to someone.” He made it clear that he is not here to tell someone how they feel – but nobody will dictate how they feel. “I don't think anyone or how you feel or what you see as admissible or things that make you angry, happy, excited or sad. This is your right as a person.”

Cena also admitted that he was not shocked. After all, this is not the first time that he speaks openly about his loyalty to McMahon. Only last month he said to the New York Times without a doubt: “I don't care who hears it: I love Vince.” He added that his love did not mean that he ignores legal chaos – he only separates the staff from public chaos. “I don't play down anything that has to be decided or allegations of all kinds, but when I love someone, I love them with all my heart.”

This quote triggered a social media fire storm, with many fans calling Cena to be deaf. In his thoughts, however, personal relationships are not deleted by public scandals, no matter how explosively. “You can't take my relationship with someone I love,” he told Times.

For the context, McMahon's current legal nightmare reported from a report by Wall Street Journal in 2022, in which he claimed that he had paid 12 million US dollars for over 16 years to bury several accusations for sexual misconduct and infidelity. And in January 2024, the former WWE employee Janel Grant beat him with a bombshell and accused him of taking sex trade and sexual assault.

McMahon has repeatedly denied all allegations. His spokesman described the lawsuit “full of lies” and a “vengeful distortion of the truth”, and swore that he will “defend himself vigorously”.

Nevertheless, Cena's unshakable support rubs many fans in the wrong direction – especially since he remains one of the most popular and influential faces of the WWE. But if you have expected that he now distanced himself, think again. Cena seems to be determined to end his wrestling career on his conditions, his loyalty and everything. It remains to be seen whether this costs him well with the fans.
