Family wants a video by Chula Vista Police through the fatal shootout on Veteran – NBC 7 San Diego

The family department asked the family of a retired Navy Corpsman, who was fatally shot by the chula Vista police officers last month, the police department on Wednesday to publish all video material related to the shootout.

On the morning of April 19, the police authority of the Chula Vista police authority opened the fire on Carlos Enriquez (56) after answering a family call in Bonita.

His family members and their lawyers said that Enriquez was in the middle of a psychological health crisis at that time and had previously diagnosed post -traumatic stress disorder in connection with his military service, in which he worked as a combat doctor.

The San Diego Police Department, who examines the shootout, said Enriquez had directed a weapon on the responding civil servants, which his family would like to confirm by the release of the officials carried out with body and police drone film material.

Eugene Iredale, a lawyer who represents the Enriquez family, said that the state law stipulates that the body material of civil servants who are involved in shootings or other activities of incidents of violence must be released within 45 days. Although the 45-day limit has not yet been reached, Iredale said that the family had requested Chula Vista police for an earlier release of the film material, but has not yet received an answer.

Representatives of the police authority did not answer a comment on the request of the family on Wednesday.

Iredale said the family who has not yet initiated legal disputes because they want to see the video recordings of the incident first, the version of the events described by the police is suspicious, especially because two of the three officials who opened fire on Enriquez were previously involved in fatal encounters with people who suffered from mental health problems.

Together with the Officer Roman Buyson, the CVPD agent Thomas Luhta was involved in the powerful and ultimately fatal arrest of a schizophrenic man in 2018, while officer Alfonso Perdomo has been firing three people in recent years.

“In view of the identity of at least two of the three people who have (Enriquez), who have (ENRICEZ), suggests that we are not given the truth and that we do not receive the whole story,” said IDALE.

Enriquez 'widow, daughter and friends made their complaints during a press conference on Wednesday morning.

Enriquez 'daughter, Aleyna Enriguez, said the obvious delay in the publication of the film material “makes me think something hidden. I think you find that you have made a mistake.

The Barrio Logan VfW Post also asked the Chula Vista police to publish video about the shootout.

She and other relatives of Enriquez described him as a loving man for his family and a convinced supporter of his fellow veterans.

His widow, Esther Enriquez, said: “We never thought that this would happen to him. If we knew, we would never call 911.”

Livier Lazaro, commander of the Barrio Logan VfW Post 7420, said his death was “shocking” for her and other VfW members. Lazaro said Enriquez was not an aggressive or violent person.

She said that the incident also underlines mental health that many veterans go through and ask if they or their families should seek for help with law enforcement in these fights.

“His family deserves these answers. The life of future veterans in the crisis needs these answers,” said Lazaro.
