Prescott's police officer was charged in June 2024

On Wednesday, the lawyer of Maricopa County, Rachel Mitchell, announced that former Prescott police officer Brian Sutton was charged by a Grand jury of Yavapai County in connection with Daniel Leslie's death in June 202.

On June 7, 2024, the police were called in a residence near the Rosser Street and the Willow Creek Road in Prescott for a home dispute, but one of the people involved, 34-year-old Daniel Leslie, had left the scene before the police arrived.

An official observed Leslie in a vehicle and tried to stop him, but Leslie fled, according to the police.

The next day, June 8, 2024, the officials returned to the residence to locate and arrest Leslie.

When the authorities arrived, they found Leslie in front of the residence. Then Officer Sutton began to give Leslie commands that he did not follow.

Body Camera film material shows Leslie in the carport of the house and tries to flee the residence when Sutton fires in Leslie several times and beats him. The police later found that Leslie was unarmed in the incident.

Leslie was taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

According to officials, the public prosecutor's office in the Yavapai district presented criminal prosecution at the Maricopa County public prosecutor on September 3, 2024 on September 3, 2024.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety examined the incident.

In October 2024, DPS completed his investigation and forwarded them to the public prosecutor's office in Maricopa for review.

Days after DPS completed its investigation, the Leslie family submitted a claim to 20 million US dollars against the Prescott police and claimed that Sutton had illegally shot and killed Leslie.

Sutton covered himself to the authorities on Wednesday and will be charged with homicide.

“We thank the Ministry of Public Security in Arizona and the public prosecutor's office of Maricopa County for all her work that examines this incident and we respect the Grand Jury decision. Mr. Sutton is no longer busy with the city of Prescott,” said a release from the city of Prescott.
