METS that are hidden by pirates cannot end sweep (highlights) (highlights)

On a wet Wednesday evening in Citi Field, the New York Mets (28-16) could not create enough offensive to support Clay Holmes, and fell 4-0 against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series finale. Despite the loss of shutout, New York still demanded the series victory.

Holmes, who worked on regular calm for the first time this season, had a hard appearance in the rain. He gave up a couple of Homer with two runs, one in the second to Matt Gorski and one in the fifth to Jared Triolo, but otherwise through six innings, which allowed seven goals and hit four. His command and speed were a touch, but he limited the damage and saved the bullpen.

The Mets had their chances early and often. In the first they loaded the bases, but could not push over a run. A similar scenario developed in fourth with the binding runs on board and two outs, but José Azócars Flyout stranded all three. New York left eight men on the basis and went with runners with runners in the rating.

Pete Alonso, Starling Marte and Luis Torrens each reached the base several times, and Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuña missed long flyouts in Homeruns in the ninth time. In total, the Mets only achieved six singles in the game.
