Liberty's start into the 2025 season after an injury in incomparable injury

The New York Liberty will be an acute meniscus injury to her left knee for the entire 2025 season without one of her starting aids, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, after she had suffered an acute meniscus injury.

Laney-Hamilton was operated on in March to repair the meniscus, and she received a five to six months of schedule to return to the court. Because of this timeline, Liberty closed her for the whole season.

Although she won't play, Laney Hamilton is expected to be present in Liberty on Saturday at the Home season start so that she can celebrate the Liberty 2024 WNBA title in addition to her teammates. The championship banner is applied to the Barclays Center and the team receives their championship rings.

“Our hearts break for Betnijah that she will not be able to take the court this season,” said Jonathan Kolb, General Manager of Liberty. “Betnijah gave us everything on the way to a WNBA champion last season. We look forward to celebrating with B on Saturday while we are increasing the first franchise championship banner. We will continue to ensure that you will receive the best possible care throughout her rehabilitation process.”

Laney Hamilton started last season in 25 out of 28 games with an average of 11.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Last season she missed 12 games with problems with her right knee.
