Do you remember a few years ago that there were countless rumors about a Nintendo Switch Profi who was never realized? Well, now that the Switch 2 is on the road and part of the hardware leaves before the publication, it sounds like there is a reason why this console never came about.

According to Digital Foundry, it seems as if the Switch Pro should always be the Switch 2. We have just started hearing the hardware early.

Nintendo has announced the official specifications for Switch 2, but there are some details that are a little vague. In addition, you can only get so much of hardware specifications yourself. But as Digital Foundry states, alleged Switch 2 motherboards have arrived at various Chinese retail locations – so that some tests can take place.

Youtubers Geekerman and Kurnal have actually published practical videos with these alleged motherboards. In them they immerse themselves in what the motherboard has to offer and begin to test its general skills.

A large part of the analysis seems to confirm earlier Switch 2 rumors, including the fact that it is a custom NVIDIA T239 processor with eight ARM A78-class CPU nuclei and a custom RTX Ampere GPU from RTX 30 series. Six of these CPU cores are available to developers, while the last two systems for system software are reserved.

It is noted that despite the concerns that the 8 -NM chips used in Switch 2 would require too much electricity to use handheld that does not seem to be a problem. Which makes sense for a console that is literally named after their hybrid nature.

Other points are 12 GB LPDDR5X dram, which are divided between a couple of 6 GB modules, although apparently only 9 GB are available for developers. It is unclear where this other 3 GB of memory goes.

However, the analysis on the motherboard shows bizarre information. Both Geekerman and Kurnal found that the chip was “closed” in 2021 or finally completed its design. This is likely where all these rumors came from the Nintendo Switch Pro.

Things will have left in the production process much earlier and may have confused with the upcoming start of the switch oled. Because if you remember until the early part of the decade, there were rumors that the Switch Pro was delivered with a 7-inch OLED screen.

In the end, the Switch Oled came out and offered a display upgrade and little other substance. That certainly alleviated the rumors for a while.

As Digital Foundry notes, chips are usually completed in the year before a large publication – which means that the Switch 2 could be released technically three years ago. We can only speculate what Nintendo would wait.

Probably the continued popularity of the original switch has played a role, because why should you hand over your existing system if it is still sold in large numbers? Undoubtedly, the increase in popularity during pandemic has also contributed to extending the console's lifespan.

Digital Foundry says why Nintendo can use 4-year-old hardware in a console that will probably take most of the next decade, the “basic features are still impressive and clearly do the work”. That is more than most of us can really ask. It was not as if the Switch 2 would ever offer PS5-Pro-Levels anyway.
