The biggest mistake that Samsung could make with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2

For years my favorite feature of Samsung Galaxy Watch has been the rotating bezel of the brand and its satisfactory, tactile feedback. Recently, swirling rumors have indicated that Samsung will bring the bezel back to the Galaxy Watch 8 after skipping it to the 7. It's all good and good, but if the company is serious to make Ultra 2 its final flagship, the rotating bezel must also appear there. In my opinion, this would be a colossal mistake.

Samsung's functional rotating bezel debut for the first time on the Gear S2 and quickly became an outstanding feature of the company's smartwatch. When the Galaxy Watch 4 series arrived, it offered the buyers two options, including a classic model with a bezel. Then the 5 Series landed with a professional option, but without a classic, and we were left up to the 6 series without them. Finally, the Galaxy Watch 7 was started without rotating bezel, and instead we have the strangely shaped ultra.

Despite its popularity, the rotating bezel has achieved inconsistent appearances in Samsung's Smartwatch lists.

In other words, the bezel came and gone despite its consistent popularity. However, the feature is not just a design gimmick. It is an intelligent, functional way for users to interact with their watch. I think it's great that it offers precise control and smooth navigation and is invaluable in situations in which the use of a touchscreen is not ideal. For me it is much faster with the physical bezel than with the digital. It is also much better for everything, from treated hands to sweaty fingers. In addition to the intuitive interaction, it also provides a satisfactory mechanical feeling that feels consciously every action and the device reacts more to each of my actions.

The return to the Galaxy Watch 8 is a welcome sign that Samsung hears the loyal user base. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 needs the function as well, if not more. As the flagship of Samsung Smartwatch, the Ultra 2 should stand out from the crowded smartwatch landscape and differ on the constantly growing Pro/Ultra/Overpup-Up model market, and the Squircle form does not. The rotating bezel could be an iconic way for Samsung to increase its premium line -up with an improved user experience. It would also help justify the high price of Ultra Line.

Adding a rotating aperture to Ultra 2 is of course not as easy as it sounds. The series was created for robust use, and the addition of movable parts could create some technical challenges. The bezel would have to be carefully designed to ensure that it does not affect the durability or water resistance of the device. A big challenge with a major reward for Samsung.

It is a premium design function that belongs to the company's premium.

At the end of the day, the rotating bezel is more than just a nostalgic recall for older Galaxy watch models. It is an intelligent, functional function that really updates the user experience and offers an unmistakable lead over competitors. Since his debut there have been no two consecutive series without rotating bezel, but it still has to end up on Pro/Ultra models. If Samsung can find a way to integrate it without affecting the toughness of Ultra 2, I would be much more inclined to overlook the other design decisions of the line.
