After her conviction, her lawyer Bill Colovos said that he intended to appeal on behalf of his client. However, Chidester later kept a new lawyer.

Colovos said he believes that Chidester's new lawyer with Amberg & Amberg will also obtain an appointment.

He noticed that it is unusual for a new lawyer to take over the case before the conviction. According to Colovos, the lawyer, who tried the case, usually remains in the case until after the conviction. Then the new lawyer will make an appointment.
