Chicago policeman, driver injured in the crash of Englewood

A police officer in Chicago and a driver were injured in an accident with a patrol car on the south side of the city on Wednesday evening, the authorities said.

According to the police, the collision occurred at 6:36 p.m. in the 5900 block of the South Racine Avenue in Englewood.

A 32-year-old woman drove an SUV West on 59th Street when she entered a turn, but continued directly through the intersection and hit the passenger side of a police vehicle to the north where the emergency lights were activated.

The SUV driver was brought to the Medical Center at the University of Chicago in a fair state. The officer injured his shoulder and hand and was also taken to the hospital in fair condition.

The woman received quotes for driving without a driver's license, without insurance and not letting an ambulance.
