The former employee of the state of South Dakota is guilty of crimes

Attorney General of South Dakota

Pirre – A former employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was convicted of a crime.

Danielle Degenstein, 52, from Pierre, entered her guilty plea on Tuesday at the Hughes County Circuit Court. She received a suspended prison sentence with one year in prison that was suspended, a year of unattended probation, a fine of 500 US dollars and court costs.

“This accused violated the public's trust by not reporting an employee's criminal activity,” said Attorney General Marty Jackley. “I will continue to lead the efforts to protect our taxpayers and maintain transparency in violations of the public's trust.”

Degenstein was investigated because he knew and did not report that an employee of the Ministry of Finance made the lawyer's document for the financial profit of this employee.

The case was examined by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. The General Prosecutor's office pursued the case.
