The model and the beauty influencer were in a beauty salon in Zapopan on the outskirts of Guadalajara at the time of the incident.

In a terrifying turn of the events, Luis Armando Córdova Díaz, a former congress member of the Mexican Pri party, was also shot down in a café in the same area.

While the investigations are still in progress, it is worth noting that the Jalisco cartel of the new generation has a considerable control over the region.

According to the local media, she was killed by a man who pretended to bring her a gift.

The state authorities deal with Márquez 'death as a potential female, an extreme form of sex -specific violence that prevails in Latin America, where a woman is targeted because of her gender.

Since the news, the social media accounts of Márquez have been flooded with comments that expressed grief and shock about their early death.

Femicide is the most extreme manifestation of gender -specific violence, with 70% of these cases occurring in wealthy nations in the United States. In Mexico, the daily tribute is dark, with about 10 women and girls to murder through intimate partners or family members, as government numbers show.

Only 2% of these cases culminate in a criminal conviction, and only a fraction of the victims provide the courage to report their attackers. The country has experienced the murder of 50,000 women since 2001, while impunity increases over 95%.

In a moving interview in 2024, the local activist Norma Andrade complained about the overshade of women's issues by increasing organized crime and drug trade in Mexico. “In Mexico, the growing number of disappearance is real, but this boom in organized crime and drug trafficking has deleted what happens to women, not that he stopped, but it becomes invisible …” she pressed out.

According to the data, 140 women and girls died from their partner or a close relative worldwide in 2023 – and corresponded to a woman who was killed every 10 minutes.
