The slavery business in the history of Rhode Island emphasizes new book

Providence, RI (WLNE) -An this weekend a number of events take place in which the history of slavery and slavery companies are highlighted in the first Unitarian church.

The authors Peter Laarman and Traci Piacard release knowledge of five years report in their new book “A Church in a triangle: race, religion and power”.

Laarmen explained how the church renews its commitment to anti -racism this weekend.

“This is a very progressive church today and people assume that it must have been progressive in the early 19th century, and that is anything but the case,” said Laarmen.

“So we take responsibility and that is the meaning of owning our history and take responsibility in our anti -racism work.”

As the book debuts, the related exhibition “Ownership of our History” opens in the rectory.

The book publication and exhibition opening are Friday evening at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, scientists and activists will carry out a panel discussion entitled “No Turning Back”, accompanied by an immersive experience for art.

That is also in the rectory from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

A committed service follows on Sunday in the meeting house.
