Unijos relieves itself from the Nelfund scandal

According to allegations of violations of some tertiary institutions in Nigeria regarding the payment of the Nigerian educational loan fund (NELFUND), the administration of the University of Jos himself relieved and describes the report that the university has with such allegations such as incorrect, misleading and completely unfounded.

In a statement that was signed by his high -ranking deputy registrar (information and publications), Abdullahi Abdullahi, the university gave that all funds provided by NELFUND were properly credited to the approved beneficiaries.

The university made it clear that its Nelfund office had set up a special mechanism to ensure that all matters of NELFUND are treated appropriately and quickly.

The explanation stated that the NELFUND Desk officer of the University of Jos, Mr. Daniel Yakmut, confirmed the strict compliance of all defined procedures since the start of the NELFUND initiative. He added that the school fees submitted to NELFUND was correct and not inflated, contrary to the claims in the non -substantial media report.

The university also emphasized that Mr. Yakmut, who is also the director of information and communication technology at the University (ICT), explained that the author of the controversial article for clarification requested that the institution had given detailed explanations on the school costs, the data of the beneficiaries and the execution process.

According to the university, Yakmut exposed the unproven claims that the beneficiaries of the University of Jos, the NELFUND went beyond the approved fee structure, and the excess funds were redirected to the university's account.

He also announced that for the academic meeting 2023/2024 of 10,617 students who applied for the loan system, only 6,988 met all requirements of NELFUND and benefited from the payment.

Mr. Yakmut was cited with the words:
“We uploaded the necessary student data together with a comprehensive fee plan. In this schedule, the detailed fees for each level, the faculty and the department were detailed, as structured by Nelfs Student Verification Portal. For the academic session of 2023/2024 Laboratory and laboratory laboratory.

“Students with laboratory, studio or workshop components were calculated 135,000 ₦, while those without such components paid 110,000 ₦ 110,000 ₦ 110,000. For students in 300 levels and higher, those with laboratory/studio/workshop paid 130,000 ₦ 130,000 and those without paid 105,000 ₦ 105,000.

The university said that the main source of confusion from the time of the payment of NELFUND was created compared to the university's academic calendar. About 95% of the beneficiaries had already paid their school fees before the university loans were credited.

In the question of reimbursement, Mr. Yakmut made it clear that the credited credit remains on the accounts of the students and applied to their fees for the next academic session.

“If your school fees are 130,000 ₦ in the next meeting and you have a loan of 30,000 ₦, you only have to pay 100,000 ₦. The money has not disappeared. It is simply rejected,” said Yakmut.

He emphasized that the university has issued a reference to this matter, but had not been made a final decision on potential reimbursements or modalities for the implementation of such reimbursements.
