Chidester, who was convicted in 2024 in 2024

Berlin Township, Michigan (WTVG) – A woman who was convicted of killing two children and injuring several others, after falling drunk to a birthday party in April 2024, was sentenced to prison on Thursday.

After court files, the 67 -year -old Marshella Chidester from Newport appeared on May 15th, where judge Daniel White sentenced her to 25 to 50 years in prison.

On April 20, 2024, Chidester drove her vehicle to the Swan Boat Club in the municipality of Berlin, where a birthday party took place. Two siblings aged 4 and 8 were killed and 15 more injured. The children killed were later identified as Zayn and Alanah Phillips.

The district's office in Monroe County said that nine people were brought by first aiders to regional hospitals, while others went to hospitals in private vehicles to be checked out.

Chidester was taken into custody and charged because of a robbery death. The sheriff says that her vehicle stopped 25 feet after struck through the wall.

In addition to the charges, Chidester also faced a lawsuit submitted by the Alanah and Zayn Phillips family. The lawsuit, which was also submitted to Verna's Tavern, claims that Chidester supposedly drank into Verna's tavern before the crash.

A few months later, on July 12th, Chidester appeared in court, where she was not guilty, two cases of second degree, two cases of operations, while intoxicating and causing five cases of the company during a robbery injuries.

Chidester's murder process began on March 3, 2025. During the three -day court proceedings, a jury heard statements from surviving victims, the mother of the children who were killed, and forensic investigators.

On March 6, the jury was guilty in two murder cases, two cases of the operation of a vehicle, while he was intoxicated, which led to death, and five charges to do a vehicle while he had been inserted, which led to serious injuries.
