Killed in the Yellowstone National Park with food -conditioned grizzly bear killed

Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming-Die employee of Yellowstone National Park trapped on May 14, 2025 and killed an 11-year-old male grizzly bear after the bear repeatedly searched human food sources in developed areas of the park.

In a press release, the parking employees announced that the 400-pound grizzly bear got several large, bearded dumpstiners bustle and access to human food and garbage near Old Faithful, the NEZ Perce Picknick area and the parking lot of the Midway Geyser Basin.

The agency said that, in addition to developing a strategy for turning over 800 pound waste containers, the bear also uprooted smaller bear-resistant dwarfs from their concrete bases in order to gain access to human food and garbage.

As a result, the bear was increasingly conditioned with food and presented the risk of public security in one of the most busy areas in the park. The decision to kill the bear was made to ensure public security and the likelihood of reducing other bears to human food.

The last grizzly bear, which was killed in a management campaign in Yellowstone, took place in September 2017 when the park removed a grizzly bear, which was harmful and was held on human food in the backcountry camping spaces at the Heart Lake.

“It is unfortunate that this bear was regularly looking for garbage and was able to defeat the park of the park of the park,” said Kerry Gunther, biologist from Yellowstone Bear Management. “We make great efforts to protect bears and prevent them from being conditioned on human food. But occasionally a bear outwits us or overcomes our defense. In this case, we sometimes have to remove the bear from the population to protect visitors and property.”

In accordance with the bear management plan from Yellowstone, the Park offers bear -resistant food stores in all campsites, food forwarding devices in all campsites in the hinterland as well as bear -resistant trash cans and dumpsters. Yellowstone reminds all visitors that the use of these bear safety measures continues to be decisive for the guarantee of public security and to prevent the wildlife, dangerous habits.
