Alex Ovechkin Tore Tracker: 'The Great Eight' Scores Tor No. 895 to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time-NHL record

Alex Ovechkin, superstar of Washington Capitals, broke an NHL record, of which many kept.

The 39-year-old Ovechkin exceeded Wayne Gretzky's all-time-noor record of 894 on Sunday afternoon. “The Great One” scored his final goal on March 29, 1999.

Ovechkin joined 853 NHL gates this season and started in his first 18 games with 15 goals with 15 goals. A broken fibula in November brought him out of the line -up for almost five weeks, but when he returned to the capitals, he missed a goal in his first five games in his first five games.

Ovechkin's latest goal, No. 895 of his career, came against the New York Islander on Sunday, with Gretzky and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman being present. The tickets for the game in the UBS home railway in UBS Arena came in the lower bowl and at least 275 US dollars in the cheaper sections.

The game stopped to remind Ovechkin's milestone performance because both teams congratulated him on the ice.

The capitals still have five games on their schedule after Sunday. He officially scored 894 goals in just one regular season game (1,846) as Gretzky.

Gretzky and his family were present to see how Ovechkin overtook his record.

“It is only a matter of time whether it is late this year, early next year, whenever,” said Gretzky to NHL.com at the beginning of this season about Ovechkin's chances to break his record. “I mean, he is a great player. He is a great scorer.”

When he stepped too Gretzky's record, Ovechkin teamed up with Hockey Fights Cancer and the V Foundation for Cancer Research to launch “the Gr8 chase for the victory over cancer”. In the campaign, Ovechkin will donate a dollar amount that corresponds to his career -NHL goal for every goal he achieves for the rest of his career. Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which belongs to the capitals, will match every donation.
