More violent crimes in Memphis affect weapons compared to the same period of the previous year, as statistics show

Memphis, tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission has published new data that show that weapons were used more in violent crimes in the first months of 2025 than in the same time of the previous year.

The Commission quotes Memphis police.

You examine reports on violent crimes in which weapons are involved from January to March 2025 compared to the same period of 2024.

While the number of violent crimes with weapons is involved alone fell by 8.6%compared to the previous year when you look at all Reports about violence in Memphis during this time – including, but not limited to murder, tightened bodily harm, rape and domestic violence – were compared to the last this year.

In the first quarter of 2024, 70.1% of all violent crimes involved firearms.

In the same months of 2025, 72.4% of all violent crime were firearms – an increase of 2.3%.

Numbers were also published especially for incidents for domestic violence.

Weapons were involved in 50.8% of the incidents for domestic violence last year. This year this number rose to 54.8% – an increase of 4%.

The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission also provided data on the frequency with which weapons from cars were stolen.

After this data, there was a decline in reports on firearms from vehicles compared to the previous year in the first quarter of this year.

It is worth noting that reported crimes do not correspond to the actual number of crimes committed.
